SUB-AREA 4 – BARNES BLVD
Barnes is truly the life-blood of the RCRA. As the connector between US 1 and I-95, traffic counts and new surrounding residential population from both Rockledge and Viera have spawned fabulous economic development.
The City Manager and his staff have worked diligently with the County Commission and their staff to find solutions to traffic problems, BEFORE, they become real problems. With remaining capacity dwindling, the City successfully coaxed the County to spend the impact fee funds it has collected for years on widening the road.
Plans are underway for land acquisition for stormwater management, lane widening, and access management. This joint planning will make a roadway network that will keep the economic engines working, with no affect on our ability of movement.
We can have the best of all worlds. Without the quality growth on Barnes, the RCRA would not have funds to participate in the widening and fund other improvements such as Barton and US 1.
